Named Location Templates

Where: Secure → Conditional Access → Named Locations → Templates tab.
You need: Manage permission on Secure.

A named location template stores a location's definition — name, type, the IP ranges or countries, the lookup method, and the Trusted flag — at your organisation, so you can deploy the same trusted-office or blocked-country list to any tenant without rebuilding it. Named locations live inside each Entra tenant with their own IDs and cannot be copied across tenants in Microsoft's portals (Microsoft: named locations); the template is the portable copy.

This is different from a named-location requirement on a Conditional Access policy template (a beta feature). A requirement creates the location as a side effect of deploying a policy. A Named Location Template deploys the location on its own, with no policy attached. If you are in the requirements beta, use both: define the location once as a template, then pick that template in the policy template's Resolve automatically picker.

Create a template

  1. Go to Secure → Conditional Access → Named Locations and open the Templates tab.
  2. Click Create template.
  3. Under Template selection, pick the tenant and the Location type (Countries or IP Ranges), then choose the existing location to copy under Select Named Location.
  4. Give the template a name and a description. The copied ranges or countries appear under Location details; adjust them if the standard should differ from the source.
  5. Click Create. The template appears on the Templates tab with its name, type and last-modified date.

Edit or delete a template

Edits change only the template. The tenant location it was copied from is untouched, and locations already deployed from the template update when you next deploy it. Deleting a template leaves every tenant's locations in place.
